Prayer can Transform and Regenerate the
Human Soul

Pray for President George W. Bush

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land."
2 Chronicles 7:14

I have a picture tacked to my bulletin board in my computer room that I cut out of a magazine. It is entitled "The First Prayer in Congress." That prayer was offered extemporaneously by a Rev. Duché in Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia, on September 7, 1774. It is such a neat picture, showing the Founders in deep heartfelt prayer, and it is a beautiful sight to behold.

To me, a Godly man is worth more than silver and gold. I wonder how many Godly men are serving in the U.S. Congress today. I wonder how many pray in earnest to God before they head for a day's work on Capitol Hill. If only they all understood what great wisdom would be theirs just for the asking. "If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God..." James 1:5. The power of prayer and the unity that prayer gives would serve as a mighty weapon against deception.

The following is a beautiful prayer written by one of the Founding Fathers,
Thomas Jefferson.

"Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage; we humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord and confusion; from pride and arrogance,
and from every evil way.

Defend our liberties and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth.

In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in days of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail.

All of which we ask through our Lord, Amen"

Words from George Washington, our first president:

"Most Gracious Lord God, from whom Proceedeth every good and perfect gift, I offer to thy divine majesty my unfeigned praise and thanksgiving for all thy mercies toward me."
"Let my heart, therefore, Gracious God, be so affected with the glory and majesty of (this day), that I may not do mine own works, but wait on thee, and discharge those weighty duties thou requirest of me."

How beautiful are those words! No wonder George Washington was a successful leader of men and leader of our country. Our heavenly Father will bless a Godly man, and that blessing will have a ripple effect just like a pebble thrown into a pool of water.
We need Godly leaders.

"The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much."
James 5:16

Finally, Thomas Jefferson also said:

"God who gave us life gave us liberty. And can the liberties of a nation be thought secure when we removed their only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of people that these liberties are a gift of God? That they are not to be violated but with His wrath? Indeed I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just; that His justice cannot sleep forever."
